CALL TO ORDER
The Cape Girardeau City Council convened in regular session on Tuesday, September 18, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., with Mayor Harry Rediger presiding and Council Members Danny R. Essner, Bob Fox, Robbie Guard, Victor Gunn, Shelly Moore, and Joseph Uzoaru present.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA

A Motion was made by Victor Gunn, Seconded by Shelly Moore to adopt.  Motion passed.

PRESENTATIONS

Children's Artwork Presentation - Sara Moore Steffens, Director of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri presented to the City Council twelve pieces of artwork from the Children's Arts Festival to be displayed in the Council Chambers for the next year. 

 

Mayor Rediger announced that the team that was deployed to assist with Hurricane Harvey recovery inspected over 400 homes and rescued 19 individuals from the flood waters of Hurrican Harvey.  Due to a mutual aid response this afternoon for a tanker truck accident on the interstate in Scott County, the team was not able to attend the meeting.

COMMUNICATIONS/REPORTS

City Council   

 

Mayor Rediger announced the Ulysses S. Grant Symposium will be held downtown Tuesday afternoon and will have a display of memorabilia at the River Heritage Museum.  The main event will be at Ivers Square at the gazebo at 5:00 pm.

 

Mayor Rediger stated he aided in kicking off the 911 Tunnel to Towers Run at Fire Station 3, and he participated in the the Walk to End Alzheimer's this past Saturday held at Cape County Park North. 

Council Gunn presented results of the Senior Information Day hosted by SALT last week. Over 330 seniors participated in informational seminars and an active shooter simulation.

Dr. Fox presented an update on the Missouri Municipal League Conference and educational sessions attended by he and the Mayor, as well as several staff members last week.   In addition, the proposed PRS2 public input meetings are scheduled from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on October 10th at the 4-H building, October 12th at the Shawnee Center, and October 18th at the Osage Centre.

Mr. Guard thanked Police Chief West Blair for tours of the new and old police stations last week.  He and Chief Blair attended the Opioid Summit held at Semo University last week, with over 400 in attendance.  Chief Blair presented an overview of issues discussed at the Summit and stated that the Governor has tasked his staff to come up with creative ways to combat the opioid epidemic.

Deputy City Manager Molly Hood announced the South Cape NDI is holding a public meeting at Tuesday at the Shawnee Center, and the 3rd of 10 Community Input meetings will be held Tuesday evening at Cup N Cork.

Appointments to the Golf Course Advisory Board.

Joshua Schulz and Gary Wren were appointed to the Golf Course Advisory Board for terms expiring September 4, 2020.

Ken House was appointed to the Golf Course Advisory Board for a term expiring November 12, 2017.

Kent Talley was appointed to the Golf Course Advisory Board for a term expiring November 12, 2018.

Nate Saverino was appointed to the Golf Course Advisory Board for a term expiring November 12, 2019.
